Note:

This blog entry was written on Sunday, September 3.  And just as I was getting to post it my computer blew up, hung up, crashed, went bye-bye.  No amount of cajoling, threatening, or auto-repairing would bring it back.  So, I went to Amazon and bought this new laptop.  I will try to write a catch-up blog tomorrow.  Right now, I have to enter all the contacts back into Outlook.  I have them on paper but not in a file.  So, hand typing it is.  Frank

Sunday, September 3, 2023.  I ride the Beemer!

Today I rode the Beemer to a really cool restaurant for lunch.  But I digress.

First, Greg helped me (meaning he did it) install the Sena 50S bike to bike intercom I had purchased and had delivered to his house on my helmet.  The installation went smoothly (because he did it) and the intercom worked perfectly.  Clear as a bell, no wind noise, clarity, clarity, clarity.  I really like it.

But I digress again.  Before the installation of the intercom, we moved the rig and the trailer from the temporary lodging across the street to Greg's lot and got it fully hooked up.  With the rig and trailer here, we unloaded the Beemer and fired it up.  Now, with the trailer parked on the grass next to his garage the ramp is level to the driveway surface so I can use the trailer as a ride in, covered parking spot.  Beautiful!

OK, then we rode to lunch.  The ride was a prequel to the rides we will be taking when the rest of the gang get here.  Frankly it was to see if I could get my old riding skills back well enough to be safe to myself and others.  Remember, I haven't done much "touring" riding lately.  Neighborhood test rides don't count and breakfast rides to Carefree aren't much better.

Anyway, the restaurant is about 12 miles away as the crow flies and 40 miles if the crow rides a motorcycle on sweepingly curvy, narrow, decreasing radius turn filled, beautiful mountain roads.  I did pretty good for an old, out of practice codger.  I give myself a C+ for staying centered on the sweeping curves and a B for making up distance on the one or two actual straightaways we encountered.  However, I'm still fighting the bike on slow speed tight turns.  I gotta relax, remember to counter steer, and let the bike do its job.  We will ride again tomorrow.

The restaurant was a blast as it is the gathering spot for all the (Harley) riders in the neighboring three counties and there must have been 150 bikes in and around the lot.  And one Indian and one Beemer.  Both bikes drew a LOT of attention.  It's a lot of fun to be one step to the side of the norm!

Tomorrow I will change out the generator's fuel pump and see if it solves the problems.

Time will tell and so will I.
