Thursday September 21, 2023 – Love them Virginia drivers.

Boy howdy and a great big whoopee!

I do love them Virginia drivers!  Yesterday we got a late start taking Ms. Shawn to Dulles airplane patch and I ended up driving 90 miles back to Kim’s RV Camp in the dark.  About 8 PM.

Kim had lent me his little car so I didn’t have to drive the big rig to and from the airport.  It’s a big lot of smaller than the rig!  Ya’ know, one of them low built cars you gotta step down to get into.  Well anyway on the way back, in the dark, I met some of the nicest, kindest, and most helpful drivers I’ve ever known.  I mean, they just went way out of their way to be helpful.

Like the first guy, where I had to turn right onto an exit from the freeway and and even tho I had my turny-flashy signal on, he pulled up alongside of me and tried to show me where I was supposed to turn by staying right next to me, even when I speeded up or slowed down, all the way to the exit!  I guess I didn’t understand what he was doing so I actually missed that turn off.  Darn.  My fault.

Anyhoo the BIB explained to me in no uncertain terms that if I didn’t do better at following her directions, she would chastise me by taking me down some really small, narrow, winding, dark mountain roads with no lane markings.  Which she did.

Now that’s where I met the second really nice guy.  It was very, very dark out there and the speed limit was 55 and I couldn’t see them turns and twisties well enough to go much faster than 45.  So this fellow, he pulls up real close behind me in his monster, ten foot tall  pick-um-up truck with them big ol’ huge tires, and turned on his bright lights so I could see better.  And I figgered he was trying to read the “I voted for Trump” sticker in Kim’s cars’ back window as he kept flashing his lights up and down.  A lot.

Anyhoo, it helped me see better but I still couldn’t go any faster cuz of them dark curves.  So, he dropped back a bit and came up behind me at about 75 miles an hour and hit them brights and also a big ol’ light bar he had mounted on the top of his truck!

Whoooeee! That really lit things up!  But it also melted Kim’s rear view mirror.  So, I will have to look into replacing that a bit later.

So, then he must have figgered I still couldn’t see very well so he put his front bumper into the back seat of Kim’s car for a while.

The last nice thing he did was when we came across a bit of wider road (about three feet wider) he went around me like a rocket and then slammed on his brakes to show me his custom-made laser/phaser/LED burn your retinas tail lights!  Then, as he pulled away, he waived “good-bye” real friendly like, but you know that poor fella must have had a real bad accident at some time because he only had one finger on his left hand!  Can you imagen that!

Well, I’ll say a little prayer for him and if you happen to know anyone with a big ol’ white pick-um-up truck with great big tires and really nice lights tell him I said, “Hi”, and “Thanks.”

  1. Gotta love those big ol' pickups. Compensating for something, or just needs something to see over everyone.
