Monday, September 11, 2023 - It's winding down.
Hello to my hundreds of followers, OK, to my dozens of followers, OK to those few of you who don't have anything better to do, "Hi!, I'm sorta back."
Everyone but brother Kim left Saturday, and Kim left yesterday, and that just leaves me here by myself and I'm gonna leave tomorrow morning whereupon silence, peace, and tranquility will once again descend upon the mountain top here in old NC. Greg and Sue are much too kind to admit it but I'm reasonably sure they are very much looking forward to seeing the ass-end of this coach as it leaves their driveway.
Tomorrow AM I will dump tanks, unhook the sewer hose, electric cord, water hose, pull in the slides, retract the landing gear, and strike out for Raleigh, NC, which is 175 miles away from Sparta making it a reasonably easy day unless the coach decides otherwise. Time will tell. I have an overnight spot reserved at a RV park 8 miles from the Raleigh-Durham Airport at which Ms. Shawn will arrive the next morning at Oh-Dark-Thirty (06:30) after flying all night from someplace called Alaska which I think is part of the U.S.A. She will then Lyft to the RV Park arriving just in time to wake up the pups and me. That is assuming I text her the spot number. If I don't, I may get a few extra minutes of sleep.
Everything after that is undefined. If she needs a day to decompress, we'll stay a day. If she's in a "Let's get this show on the road" mood, we will head North. I'm not sure just where North, but probably somewhere around Burke, Virginia which is definitely 267 miles and probably two days away. Burke being where her brother lives and the stay there is also undefined.
As Burke is reasonably near three of my brothers (all of whom were just here with me at Greg's) and my sister who lives in Maryland, I hope to visit their homes mostly to see all the neat stuff they've done since I was last there. I don't want to drive the rig around Northern Virginia and Maryland, so I plan to beg, buy, borrow, or steal, or maybe even rent, a car for a week or so. We'll see how that shakes out.
That's about it. Sue just cooked a great, "we loved having you here with us but it's time for you to leave" meal, so I'm going to do the pre-prep-for-leaving stuff around the rig and hit the sack.
See you on the flip side.
Rusty Pistons.
PS: Heather, I've been thinking about you and Gary, and I hope everything went well.
